Little things

My daily life at the moment is full of small things, often taken care of within our house. Sometimes I struggle to value what I do, as women are taught to be ambitious and to measure their success in life mainly through achievement outside of the home. For the moment, as I take care of our children and our home, I definitely disqualify for success in society’s eyes.

Yet when I stop to consider things, and let the strain of the day wash away, I find the words of Mother Teresa bringing me great perspective. She once said:

"We can do no great things, only small things with great love."

So this is the true measure of success. Not the greatness of the acts themselves but the greatness of love behind them.

If I write a number of great articles but have not done so in love, I have gained nothing.

If I bring about great changes in society but have not done so in love, I have failed.

If I pray like the greatest woman of faith, but have not done so in love, the centerpiece is missing!

Love is who God is. Love is who we are meant to become. And the good thing about love is that we can use it as the fuel for whatever we do! Doing the dishes and preparing political speeches can be acts of great love – and therefore they can be acts of greatness as well.

Let’s do everything God gives us to do with His love flowing through us. And the little things will then become great, because God looks at our hearts.
